Double Release Day! Kapil Seshasayee / Elevant

Agitpropcover1
Rounding error 01

We've got a double release on our hands today, the new single from Kapil Seshasayee 'The Agitprop', and Elevant's new single 'Rounding Error'.

The Agitprop is an enigmatic slice of art pop that takes aim at the often overlooked alliance between the Alt-Right and Upper Caste Indians in diaspora, as part of a piercing examination of the injustices of the Caste system that he's undertaken on his forthcoming debut album A Sacred Bore.

It's been featured in The Quietus here > http://thequietus.com/articles/24697-kapil-seshasayee-the-agitprop

Rounding Error is a sinister post punk outing from Elevant that touches on themes of dehumanisation, based off an incident where a friend of the band had a horrible experience trying to prove to the DWP that his mental health was too bad for him to work. It addresses the issues of people being reduced to their data in the modern age.

Elevant Announce New Single 'Rounding Error

SINGLE NUMBER TWO! OUT 1/6/2018!
Rounding Error is a blast of nervous post-punk drums and paranoiac guitars from Elevant's upcoming EP 'Here Come The Cold Sweats'. It's a song that rails against dehumanisation, inspired by a friend of the band who had a horrible experience trying to prove to the DWP that his mental health was bad enough for him to not be fit to work. The video was directed by James Lyall Media, and stars Abbie Brennan as the object of our intrusive scrutiny. Recorded by Peter Harrison of SPQR, Mixed by Sam Jones and mastered by Pete Maher Mastering.

Oh, the Joy

GRAVVES

Matching witty, tongue-in-cheek lyrics to jagged guitars, GRAVVES are noise merchants bar none.

They occupy a space where punk fury, alt-rock hugeness and truly infectious songs coexist. Blasts of vicious feedback live alongside a swagger laden with naggingly catchy hooks.

Emerging from North Wales, the band released debut EP Rattle in 2017 through Liverpool based Loner Noise Records. Singles Tribes and My Pet Rihanna received widespread airplay by the likes of BBC Radio 6, BBC Radio Wales, Amazing Radio and Kerrang! Radio. The release made waves online, described as “a bratty, scuzzy brand of balls-out grunge rock, bursting with snarling punk attitude.”

Their live performances quickly gained a reputation as perfect moshpit fuel, pulling crowds and turning heads at the likes of Y Not Festival, Focus Wales and Wrong Festival.

Following the momentum, “Oh, the Joy” is a 6-track EP set for release in April, recorded by Michael Whalley (Kong, Bipolar Sunshine).
Opener Power Bomb Baby instantly throws the listener in at the deep end, as bassist Adam Hughes yells over an uptempo beat layered with distorted noise. Amusing lyrics such as “two legged dogs are such a rare thing / like fat little kids not wanting ice cream” are mixed in with more soul searching questions; “do you trust me?”

“The lyrics put a picture in your head, but there’s always a meaning behind what we’re saying,” he explains. “It’s about meeting someone new. They pick you off your feet, throw you on your back, take your breath away.”

Monster Truck hurtles forward with a vicious statement of intent; “if you’re a mini, I’m a monster truck / I'll drive you into the dirt." Spiky guitars accompany a dual-vocal assault guaranteed to encourage sing-alongs at future performances.

The indie styling of This Is Bliss gives way to a defiant intensity (“if you feel low, we can dance slow”) whilst Sinister Surf is locked down by a pulsating groove, swaying between subdued verses and an explosive, angst-ridden chorus.

“It’s definitely cathartic,” explains guitarist David Thomas, who takes on vocal duties. “It’s about some people I came across who were, to put it lightly, not the most empathetic. It’s a pretty angry song, and they gave me good cause to be angry.”

The following stomp of Hello Sailor drags the listener towards an anthemic hook with a White Stripes-esque drum march. The EP closes with the unapologetic L Is For Loser, with which the band fully embraces a crushing heaviness hinted at in earlier tracks.

Loud, infectious and downright cataclysmic, “Oh, the Joy” showcases a band taking aim at bigger things.

Following the success of last year’s debut event, which saw the likes of Bo Ningen, The Wytches, Part Chimp and Heck unleash their aural savagery, it’s happening again. WRONG continues to tie together an extremely talented if sometimes overlooked pool of great, visceral and exciting bands, as well as bringing in high profile bands who are leaders and legends of the Freakscene.

The event will take place once again across the trifecta of the Invisible Wind Factory, the North Shore Troubadour and DROP The Dumbulls Gallery, playing host to over 30 bands from the early afternoon to the small hours of the morning. Organised by Liverpool based record label Loner Noise, the bill will contain a wealth of bands from every level of the scene. The first announcement is coming soon…

BAND BIOS >>>

Elevant
Elevant are a visceral, exciting and smart rock band. Able to blend genres effortlessly whilst always retaining their own sound that can kick you in the gut or softly soothe (on occasion), they spin dark tales of modern day disillusionment. They combine crushing riffs with warped sonic textures and irresistible grooves, all whilst maintaining a knack for infectious hooks. Their new EP has seen widespread acclaim, as well as playlist spots on radio stations such as KEXP and KCRW in the US, as well as others worldwide.

SPQR
Listening to SPQR is like being a passenger in a speeding car, at 2am, with a body in the boot and a driver you’re pretty sure put it there. They’re like a musical representation of the minds of Cronenberg and Lynch, bending a sinister slink to their dirty art rock. The rhythm section of Bex Denton and Jack Sanders provide the foundation for Peter Harrison's freaky guitar colourations and his intensely passionate, crystal clear voice to burrow into your mind. Recently featured in The Quietus, they're

Gravves
Matching Future of the Left noise and humour to Queens of the Stone Age hooks and seductive sleaze, Gravves are noise merchants bar none. With their debut EP Rattle garnering acclaim and bagging them a host of festival appearances this year, their live ferocity matches the record. They occupy that space where a strange duality of punk fury, alt-rock hugeness and truly infectious songs coexist. Blasts of vicious feedback live alongside a sinister swagger in fantastic songs.

Kapil Seshasayee
Kapil Seshasayee creates avant pop bar none, a sound unlike any other. A one man combination of Scott Walker, Mark Hollis, Bjork, and Richard Dawson, creating something wholly unique. He combines Big Black style drum machine beats with thundering baritone guitar, stunning vocals and and a penchant for unorthodox instrumentation such as the aquaphone. Truly experimental yet still accessible. He was also recently featured in The Quietus talking about his forthcoming concept album about the Indian Caste System.

Pocket Apocalypse
Pocket Apocalypse are epic and intimate all at once. Effortlessly blending unpretentious post rock grandeur with alternative rock and progressive flourishes, their songwriting is taut and rich with experience, the band playing off each other effortlessly. Frontman Nick Jones' passionate and absorbing vocals can range from a delicate whisper to soaring and melodious and to a righteous barbaric yawp. His and Chris Catterall's guitars intricately weave together, spiralling in tandem whilst in a rhythm section bar none, Phil Dunn (Drums) and Leandro Cuzzocrea (Bass), Lock into unison and lend their songs not only hypnotic grooves, but a craftsman's detail.

Black Pudding
Black Pudding are a garage rock band with a twisted sense of humour. Born from the ashes of Leeds noiseniks Stilts, they filter their righteous anger through a seductive veneer, with a knowing wink and a punk sneer. With a touch of the Ty Segall/Thee Oh Sees thickness to their riffs, The Wytches' foreboding gloom and The Cramps' weirdness, they have everything a growing boy needs. Their forthcoming singles Sci-Fi Si and Tillagio have already been playlisted on KEXP.

Salt the Snail
Salt the Snail are raucous, hardcore inflected punk rock, with their tongues placed firmly in their cheeks, and their mic stands probably in two pieces. With an unbelieveable start to their career, they've managed to play with Fucked Up and The Membranes in their first run of gigs, and are set to release a single with Loner Noise this year.

Federãles
Federales are what would happen if Fugazi didn't take themselves seriously, and had Iggy Pop. Combining Dinosaur Jr style slacker guitar with elements hardcore punk and a devilish sense of humour. On top of that, they possess an electrifying live show.

Bleach Sweets
Born from frustration and boredom, Bleach Sweets are a savage noise rock two piece, their songs bristling with acidic humour and equally acidic feedback. They come on like the bastard child of the Melivns, The White Stripes and Frankie Boyle, but with all nuance removed.

Gravves Matching Future of the Left noise and humour to Queens of the Stone Age hooks and seductive sleaze, Gravves are noise merchants bar none.

Kapil Seshasayee Kapil Seshasayee creates avant pop bar none, a sound unlike any other.

Pocket Apocalypse Pocket Apocalypse are epic and intimate all at once.

Black Pudding Black Pudding are a garage rock band with a twisted sense of humour.

Salt the Snail Salt the Snail are raucous, hardcore inflected punk rock, with their tongues placed firmly in their cheeks, and their mic stands probably in two pieces. With an unbelieveable start to their career, they've managed to play with Fucked Up and The Membranes in their first run of gigs, and are set to release a single with Loner Noise this year.

Federãles Federales are what would happen if Fugazi didn't take themselves seriously, and had Iggy Pop. Combining Dinosaur Jr style slacker guitar with elements hardcore punk and a devilish sense of humour. On top of that, they possess an electrifying live show.

Bleach Sweets Born from frustration and boredom, Bleach Sweets are a savage noise rock two piece, their songs bristling with acidic humour and equally acidic feedback. They come on like the bastard child of the Melivns, The White Stripes and Frankie Boyle, but with all nuance removed.

Yes, we changed the name

The record label will no longer operate under Elevant Music Limited. After much deliberation we decided that it's grown beyond its original purpose as a vehicle for Elevant, I mean jeez, just look at the roster now. From now on it's Loner Noise, baby! We've got some incredible stuff to announce soon, so strap yourselves in.
